Lake Travis High School senior football player Odin Hensley passed away early Wednesday evening after suffering cardiac arrest during the team’s practice on Monday, Aug. 10. He was 17 years old.
One of Hensley’s teammates posted a message on Instagram shortly after a community prayer vigil held at Lake Hills Church.
“Rest in peace Odin, it was truly an honor to play next to you and get to know you. Thank you for pushing me to be better….You will not be forgotten,” senior Jackson Koeppel wrote.
“Absolutely heartbroken,” Lake Travis football coach/athletic director Hank Carter said via text.
Lake Travis ISD Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null notified the district’s families by email early Thursday morning.
“It is with profound sadness that we share that Lake Travis High School senior Odin Hensley has passed away as a result of complications from a medical emergency he experienced during football practice earlier this week,” Null wrote.
“His teachers and coaches remember Odin as a kind, determined young man who was a valued teammate, classmate, and friend,” Null’s letter continued. “His presence touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed.”
“During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Odin’s family, teammates and classmates, coaches, athletic trainers, teachers, and all those who knew and loved him in your thoughts and prayers,” the letter concluded. “The care and strength of our community will help us support one another in the days ahead.”
